ITINERARY

DAY 1: LIMA ARRIVAL

A View Peru staff member will be waiting for your arrival at the Lima airport, from the airport you will be transferred to your private vehicle to the hotel of your choice. Any questions you have will be answered and you will be briefed on your itinerary by your assistant. You have the evening to relax in your hotel to prepare yourself for the exciting tour ahead.

DAY 2: LIMA, COLONIAL CITY AND OUTSTANDING ARTIFACTS, B

Explore in Lima, visiting the Plaza Armas, and the Cathedral, built in 1538. Then you will have time to have a wonderful lunch at Rosa Nautica. Having time to explore the Larco Herrera Museum, you will find pre-Columbian artifacts. Later on, at night, visit Huaca Pucllana archaeological site before a welcome dinner of Peruvian cuisine.

DAY 3: LIMA – CUSCO, B

After breakfast in Lima, you will be transported by your private assistant and vehicle to the airport to catch your one hour and a half domestic flight to Cusco. Upon arrival in Cusco you will be picked up and brought to your hotel in the historic center of the city.

After the opportunity to rest for a bit, you will be taken on a walking tour of the ancient capital of the Incas. The tour will include the colonial Cathedral, the Main Square, the Temple of the Sun, as well as the typical open-air San Pedro Market were you will appreciate a typical market.

DAY 4: RIVER RAFTING THE URUBAMBA RIVER (B, L, D)

You will be picked up after breakfast at your Cusco hotel to begin your adventure down the Urubamba River rapids. We raft the upper section of the Urubamba river, surrounded by gorgeous mountain scenery and with cleaner water and constant train of waves and rapids , We drive for 1:45 minutes South East from Cusco , once we arrive to our launch point a safety orientation and all your rafting gear will be provided. Chuqui is the local name for the Upper section of the Urubamba river, and depending on the season ,( May to November ) the level of difficulty can range from Introductory and intense moderate Class II to Class III+ rapids, and during the wet Season ( December to April ) exhilarating , adrenaline Class IV pumps rapids will be challenge of the day. We do cover 17km or 10.5miles for 2:15 minutes, at the end a Homemade picnic lunch will be provided. No rafting experience is required. At the end of your adventure down the river, a camp will be waiting for you with your dry clothes, and a prepared delicious lunch. return to the hotel.

DAY 5: MOUNTAIN BIKING TO MORAY AND MORAS (B, L, D)

Be sure you enjoy the hearty breakfast provided at your hotel to give you energy for your private mountain biking adventure today. You will be picked up at your hotel around 9:00am to make the short trip to the town of Chinchero where the biking route starts. This is a quaint village that still has the layout of the Inca town that it once was, with several ancient buildings still in use. Once the guide is done briefing you on safety and the route, you will be geared up with the highest quality biking equipment and ready to go. The journey begins riding towards the Lake Huaypo where you will continue to ride until you come across the terraced amphitheater of Moray. This ancient site was used as an agricultural laboratory to bio-engineer different breeds of plants to grow at different altitudes. From here, you will continue riding until you reach the cute colonial village of Maras which will finally lead you to the amazing site of the salt pans of Maras. These amazing pans were engineered to extract salt from the salt-laden spring coming from the mountain, and have been used for centuries to evaporate the water leaving only the salt in the pans. The final descent of the trip will be a short downhill ride to the village of Urubamba in the Sacred Valley where a car will be waiting to bring you back to Cusco, where you will arrive around 4:00pm. This fairly easy bike ride takes you on about 35km of gorgeous back roads and foot trails leading through rural villages and isolated areas that you wouldn’t have the chance to see any other way. Return to your hotel.

DAY 6: CUSCO – KM 82 – WAYLLABAMBA, , B, L, D

You will be picked up at your hotel, after you enjoy a delicious breakfast, at 5:30 am and brought by private transport to the town of Ollantaytambo – an ancient town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here we will take a short break for you to get any snacks or last-minute supplies before embarking on the trek. From Ollantaytambo, you will be transported to Km 82 – the official beginning of the Inca Trail. Here you will meet your guides and porters who will make this journey incredibly special. Once you cross the Urubamba River (2,200m), you will have officially started your trek on the ancient steps of the Incas. The path today is very easy and is a great warm-up for the challenging days to follow. Around lunch time we will arrive in Miskay where you will dine enjoying an amazing view. Your guides will tell you about the nearby ruins of Llactapata that you will have time to visit. From lunch, the trail heads towards Wayllabamba (3,100m) then climb up to Yuncachimpa (3,300m) where you will find tonight’s comfortable campsite. Here you will enjoy a buffet dinner prepared by some of the best chefs on the trail. Tonight you will relax in your comfortable tent amongst the tranquil mountain surroundings.

DAY 7: YUNCACHIMPA – LLULLUCHAPAMPA – WARMIHUAÑUSCA PASS – PACAYMAYU, B, L, D

Day two of the Inca Trail is accepted as the most difficult because you have to tackle Warmihuañusca (Dead Woman’s Pass). In the morning you will enjoy a hot cup of tea and a hearty breakfast before starting the hike. This leg of the trail is free hiking, meaning you should walk at your own pace that is comfortable for you – of course, we will meet up for lunch and at the most challenging parts of the trail to rest. Early in the morning, the trail goes through the Llullachapampa Valley (3,850m) where you will enjoy the beautiful cloud forest. After the valley you will begin the ascent, the first 3km of the 6km trail are extremely steep but you will be walking through gorgeous thick woodlands and enjoy the complete isolation of this magical area. After following the path uphill for another two or three hours you will finally come to the peak of Warmihuañusca (4,200m). We will take time to rest and to appreciate this incredible moment. From here we take the steep path down to the Pacaymayu River (Sunrise River) where you will walk towards the Runkurakay Pass (3,050m) where you will get to see more ruins. Late in the afternoon, you will reach Chaquicocha (3,650m ) where your campsite is located, you will enjoy a delicious dinner and some well-earned rest.

DAY 8: CHAQUICOCHA – PHUYUPATAMARCA, B, L, D

Today is known as the most beautiful day of the trek as you will see a quick change in the environment to the thick tropical forest of Wiñayhuayna. You will come to the second pass at 3,950m where you will encounter mountain lakes. After the pass is an easy walk through the forest then an Incan tunnel before reaching the third pass that will give you sweeping views of the Urubamba River Valley. You will pass the ancient site of Phuyupatamarca (The Town Above the Clouds, 3,600m) where you will see Inca baths that really show you their genius engineering.

Phuyopatamarca will be the last campsite, by the way, the best campsite during the trek with an amazing view and sunset. Enjoy your last night in the wilderness and delicious farewell dinner with wine included.

DAY 9: WIÑAYHUAYNA – MACHU PICCHU –CUSCO (B)

Today you will wake up very early to witness the amazing sunrise over Machu Picchu. You will have your last breakfast on the trail at 4:30 am then we will hike towards the Inti Punku (Sun Gate). You will continue through another Inca tunnel towards the famous Wiñaywayna ruins (Forever Young, 2,650m). After these incredible ruins you will follow an Inca staircase up a zig-zagging trail to a red-roofed building Once you sit and appreciate the beautiful sunrise over the lost city of the Incas, you follow the trail on your final descent to Machu Picchu (2,400m). You will arrive at the ruins at about 10:00am where you will have a full tour of the amazing Lost City of the Incas that will last around two hours.

When the tour is over you will have time to explore the ruins on your own before returning down to Aguas Calientes. Catch the standard train back to Cusco where you will be greeted at the train station and transferred to your hotel.

Optionally you can stay in aguas calientes one night at an extra cost and explore machu picchu for a second time the next day. Pleae ask for more deatils.

DAY 10: CUSCO – PUNO, B, L

After a full breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to your bus to Puno. This stunning drive takes you up over the Peruvian Altiplano, a large plain spanning between Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina with an average altitude of 3,750m. You will make several stops along the way to enjoy this journey. Various museums, Inca ruins, and small cultural villages will be stopped at giving you a chance to stretch your legs and experience the rural Altiplano. In addition, you will stop at the highest point of the route at a dizzying altitude of 4319m for great photography opportunities. In Puno, you will be received at the bus terminal and transferred to your hotel for the night.

Optionally you can take the luxury train to Puno, a private cab or a flight, let us know your desires.

DAY 11: LAKE TITICACA DAY TOUR, B, L

Today you will spend a full day on the sparkling Lake Titicaca. It is the highest navigable lake in the world and the largest in South America. The lake is famous for its distinct culture and man-made floating islands originating from communities seeking refuge from enemy villages on the lake shore. The first stop on your boat tour will be to the floating reed island of Uros. Community members will welcome you and teach you how they built the islands and take you on a ride on one of their reed boats. You will continue to another reed island called Taquile where you will experience the life of the locals as they have been living for centuries, relying on small-scale agriculture and animals for a simple life of sustainable subsistence. A guide will lead you around the island sharing its customs and history and you will enjoy a traditional lunch. From Taquile, you will be brought back to Puno arriving at your hotel in the late afternoon.

Optionally, you can take a homestay experience with a local family on the island.

DAY 12: PUNO – LIMA, B

After breakfast at your hotel, View Peru will transfer you to the Juliaca airport to catch your return flight to Lima.
